History at Peculiar

Peculiar International School, located at Windy Hills, CP in the North-Western Part of Kasoa in the Central Region of Ghana was established in September 2001 with only two children, one of whom was the founder, Mrs. Naomi Osei – Asemani’s daughter.

It started very humbly in a garage and a bedroom converted into a classroom. Now running both Ghanaian and British Curricula, Peculiar International originally took the name Unique Child Academy and grew at a progressive pace under the motherly guidance of Naomi Osei – Asemani who had to combine her own studies at the University with that of the supervision of her baby school.

Fortunately for her, she had the able assistance of her younger sister, Mrs. Love Ago who put in some tremendous amount of work.

Through pragmatic planning and hardwork, Mr. and Mrs. Asemani finally put up a permanent structure to house the pupils in January 2004. In May 2004 the first professionally trained Certificate ‘A’teacher was engaged to bring in a professional touch and quality expected of this ambitious institution. This was done without counting their costs involved.
In the same month of May 2004, the school took delivery of two computers.

Thus at a very early stage in its development, Unique Child Academy had dared to expose its children to the strange world of I.C.T. at a time when schools much older in the education industry had barely heard of the magical world of I.C.T.

This step was taken because of the Proprietress’ belief in the ability of children to adapt to new educational situations and developments.

The school buildings have become the cynosure of every passer-by some of whom mistakenly take them for a hotel. This cannot be their fault because the buildings are just magnificent and learner-friendly.
Currently, Peculiar International School boasts of a population of over 900 pupils with a staff of highly qualified teachers and excellent Administrative Staff all numbering 100.

To facilitate learning the following laboratories have been constructed a Computer Laboratory, Home Economics Laboratory, Modern Science Laboratory, an Art Studio and a Music department. Transport facility as well as a Library equipped with relevant fiction / Non-fiction books.

There is also a special Music Department with Christ as the anchor, Peculiar International is working persistently, unrelentingly, resiliently and invigoratingly to produce future leaders with analytical minds who will surely contribute their quota towards the building of a country worth living.

A happy co-incidence was the visit of District Co-ordinators for the purposes of registration and regularization of the school as the newest addition to the number of Private Schools in the Central region.

Driven by a passionate desire to nurture future citizens who would excel in their future fields of endeavour, Mrs. Naomi Osei-Asemani, now Director of Peculiar International constructed another beautiful edifice, a four storeyed one to house a branch of the school, the British (Cambridge) Curriculum in May 2012 and opened its doors to both Boarding and Day Students.

Peculiar International School is ensuring the attainment of its vision through educational programmes like Creche, Nursery, K.G., Primary, Junior High and the IGCSE, ‘AS’/A-levels. Four batches of B.E.C.E. graduands have passed through the walls of Peculiar International School with magnificent performances.

However, it is not all academic work and no play. There are clubs and societies like the ‘IT’ Club, French, Red Cross, Bible, Mathematics and Science Club, Writers and debators Club, Girls’ Guide , Cadet, Takwando, Sports Club, Arts ie: Floral & Bead making, Cultural & Drama, Drawing, Designing & Painting Clubs.

To quote the famous African author Chinua Achebe in his book “Things fall Apart” “Looking at a king’s mouth, one would think that he never sucked at his mother’s breast.” In truth, Peculiar International School, by the Grace of God, finds itself where it is, among the pantheons of Educational Institutions, after passing through numerous challenges, some of them very tough, but the Director has never wavered because of the strong will and faith in God, and a very passionate desire to attain her vision……… to raise morally upright leaders” who in future can stand tall among their fellow citizens.
